Educator [from off-screen]: Would you like some paper too, sweetheart?

Boy: Huh?

Educator: Would you like to sit down and do some drawing as well? Yeah, OK, let’s get you a piece of paper too. Jazzy, can I get a piece of paper? You can have yours and I’ll just take one from underneath.

Jazzy: I want one right there.

Educator: Yeah. You can have one. I’ll give them back to you. That one’s you, and that can be for over there.

Visual description: A young girl, Jazzy, is seated at a low table drawing with the pencils from a white plastic pot positioned in front of her. A young boy is standing beside the girl, pointing to the pencils as the educator speaks to him.

Educator: Alright. There you go. Alright, well done. You’ve got that on your table. Good boy. There you go. You going to choose a colour? Alright.

Visual description: In an overhead shot, the educator is shown setting up the paper and pencils for Jazzy and the boy, who is now also seated at the table.

Educator [from off-screen]: Can you draw together? Show what you can draw, Jazzy. Draw circles? Lots of circles.

Educator: You going to make some marks on your paper or are you just playing with the pencils? What can your pencil do? Look at that. Lots of marks. Well done. Oh, Jazzy, well done.

Visual description: In a close-up, we see Jazzy holding the pencil lightly to draw light strokes across a round shape she had previously added to the paper.

Educator [from off-screen]: Push it down the end if it’s in your way. Is there anything in there? Some paint? Can you hear it? Can we have a look? Let’s have a look, see what’s inside. Has that got some paint in there? We put that away because we don’t have our brushes here just now and we’ve got to use the pencils. You want to put that over there? Where does that go? You know where it goes? With the other pot. Thank you.

Visual description: From a side view, we see Jazzy and the boy seated at the table. While the boy is choosing a number of pencils, Jazzy continues to draw. Jazzy notices a pink plastic container sitting on the side of the table. She takes the container from the table and hands it to the educator who opens it to reveal the pink paint inside. Jazzy peers into the container to look at the paint. The educator replaces the lid and hands the container back to Jazzy to place it back in its original spot on the table.

Jazzy: You wanted this?

Educator: You want to have a look in that one? What’s inside?

Jazzy: Oh.

Educator: Purple paint. Oh, what have you got on your finger? Put it on the paper. There you go, Jazzy. Yeah, you can do finger painting.

Visual description: Jazzy puts away the pink paint pot and immediately picks up the purple one. The educator opens the pot and Jazzy peers inside. The educator shows the paint to the boy who dips his finger into the pot and grins.

Educator: Maybe later. We’ll do it with the pencils now. The pencils now. Let’s have a look at this. What can you do with this? What can you do with this? Can you do a face?

Jazzy: Do you want this?

Educator: Yeah. You want me to do something? OK.

Visual description: The boy reaches across the table towards the colourful paint pots. The educator demonstrates drawing on the boy’s paper, then puts down the pencils for the boy to use. Jazzy then hands the educator a pencil for a similar demonstration on her piece of paper.

02:44 – 03:24

Audio: [Ambient sounds of children playing inside the service.]

Educator: Round and around and around. Is it a circle too? Let’s see. You show me your circles. Well, you show me with a different colour. Now you all want to paint. Ready? Round and round. Oh, look at those big circles. Yes. My turn? Round and round. What else? What about some of our dots, Jazzy? Let’s do some dots. No. What’s up?

Visual description: The educator draws circles on Jazzy’s paper then hands the pencil to Jazzy. Holding the purple paint pot, Jazzy gives the pencil back. Jazzy picks up another pencil and draws large circles as the educator adds a smaller circle in a corner of her paper. The educator draws dots on Jazzy’s paper. A little frustrated, Jazzy hands the pencil back. The scene closes with Jazzy quietly focused on drawing another circle on her paper.
