Date awarded 24/09/2015

KU - Corrimal East Pre-School in NSW has been awarded the Excellent rating from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA), the highest rating a service can achieve under the National Quality Framework for early childhood education and care.

ACECQA Board Chair Rachel Hunter said the service demonstrated exceptional practice across a range of areas, including collaborative partnerships with professional and research organisations.

In partnership with the University of Wollongong, KU - Corrimal East Pre-School participates in a variety of research projects to enhance children’s learning and growth.

Currently the service is participating in the University of Wollongong’s Early Start project to explore the impact of information technology on children’s learning and activity levels. This project develops educators’ skills by providing resources and ideas on how to implement a range of different technologies in their practices.

Findings from research titled ‘Effects of Enactment with and without Exercise on Learning Foreign Language Vocabulary in Pre-School Children’ identified that children who were active retained more information than when stationary. As a result, educators encourage children to be more physically active during times of intentional teaching.

KU - Corrimal East Pre-School supports its educators to undertake new programs and research projects by offering relevant professional development which enhances educators’ confidence and implementation of new practices.

"KU - Corrimal East Pre-School takes an active leadership role within the community and wider childhood sector,” Ms Hunter said. “I congratulate the educators for their continued efforts to raise the bar on quality education and care.”

Services that receive an overall rating of ‘Exceeding the National Quality Standard’ can apply for the Excellent rating. More information is available on the ACECQA website.
