Inclusive Practice Framework
All children and their families have the right to feel welcome and participate in an inclusive education and care service, regardless of their circumstances, strengths, gender, capabilities or diverse ways of doing and being.
Equity, inclusion and diversity underpin the National Quality Framework (NQF) and are embedded throughout the National Quality Standard (NQS) and the Approved Learning Frameworks.
The NQF promotes inclusive programs, practices and policies that support children and their families to access and fully participate in early education and care services. Services are expected to make reasonable adjustments to their policies, pedagogy, planning, experiences and the physical environment to ensure the safety, health, wellbeing and optimal development of each and every child.
The Australian Government Department of Education has engaged us to deliver an Inclusive Practice Framework to strengthen the capability of all services to embed inclusive practices to better support children and families experiencing barriers to both access and participation.
Over the next 12 months, supported by inclusion experts, we will develop and trial an Inclusive Practice Framework to help your service better understand your current level of capability and plan strategies for any improvements needed.
We will also provide a suite of free and practical resources that build on our existing suite of DDA resources.
The Inclusive Practice Framework and resources will complement the Australian Government’s Inclusion Support Program and the Australian Government led Disability Standards of Education Amendment Standards 2024 (the draft Amendment) consultation, commencing on 31 January 2025. The draft Amendment will change the Standards to include most early childhood education and care (ECEC) services and providers and reflect the existing Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) obligations.
