The University of Canberra and the Australian Department of Education and Training have launched Early Learning STEM Australia (ELSA), a play-based digital learning pilot program for preschool children to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The pilot program engages children through a series of apps for tablet devices, activities, workshops and a set of resources linked to the Early Years Learning Framework. Along with developing a program for early childhood settings, ELSA is also developing a suite of resources for families that connect children’s learning environments and experiences at home and their preschool.
Commencing in 2018, the program aims to work with a diverse range of preschools, kindergartens and long day care centres in urban, regional or remote areas in all states and territories. Expressions of interest are now open for the pilot, with applications closing 10 April 2017.
